The mission of the Center is achieved through five functional cores (1) administrative (2) research (3) community engagement and outreach (4) education and training (5) collaboration and partnership. The Center programs are organized into two major divisions: the Division of Quality of Healthcare and the Division of Access to Healthcare.
The Administrative Core provides infrastructure and resources for the Center and is responsible for the ongoing planning, coordination, oversight, and evaluation of all activities. This core is directed by a team consisting of the Center Executive Director, Board of Directors, Community Advisory Board and administrative technicians.
The Research Core is responsible for all research projects and pilot studies. It provides leadership, infrastructure, oversight, and support to facilitate and guide the research initiatives. This core is responsible for advising the Administrative Core, disseminating information, promoting collaboration among projects and supporting new researchers in the Center. Research directors, and/or committees from research projects, and principal investigators from each project are responsible for this core.
The Community Engagement and Outreach Core provide for the dissemination of health information to community health organizations and residents. This core supports community health activities and collaborative research projects. Support for investigators engaged in participatory research by developing trusting relationships necessary to recruit and retain community members in research is provided by this core. The Center Executive Director, the Community Advisory Committee and all investigators engage in community research are responsible for execution of this core.
The Education and Training Core provides learning experiences and support for undergraduate, graduate students, and junior faculty to develop and increase research capacity and skills. This core also provides support in increasing the number of ethnic, racial and underrepresented socioeconomic groups in healthcare provider schools and the healthcare workforce. This core consists of the Executive Director, investigators who have training components in their projects, and the Advisory Board for the National Strategy: Building Environments for NCLEX Success.
The Collaboration and Partnership Core provides an infrastructure that will assure all projects undertaken in the Center will produce outcomes leading to improved minority health and the elimination of health disparities. The core team will constantly look for resources in other universities and colleges, health organizations, funding agencies, and communities and develop with them mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations. This core promotes collaboration among other cores, academic areas, projects and investigators. This core will encourage collaborations of multiple principal investigators from disparities' communities, Historically Black and Predominantly Black universities and colleges and minority-serving institutions. The Executive Director, Community Advisory Board, and all projects directors and principal investigators are included in this core.
